We wondered if anyone would be able to help us: the Elwes family of Norfolk are looking for the grave of Dick Elwes, proprietor of the Ketuldynia Estate, who died in a nursing home in Colombo on 14th December 1940 aged 74. In his Will he expressed a wish to be buried in the cemetery at Gampola. Results in our searches so far have drawn blanks. Dick (Richard) Elwes’ Executors were Oscar Percy Mount and Geoffrey Thomas Hale of Julius and Creasy, in Colombo. They appointed a European superintendant Mr. Gault to reside at Kituldenyia. Among other bequests, Dick left his servant Sinniah 2,000 rupees. To the Incorporated Trustees of the Church of England in Ceylon he left the sum of 2,000 rupees for the Clergy Endowment Fund upon Trust to pay the income therefrom to the Incumbent for the time being and from time to time of St. Paul’s church Kandy as an addition to his stipend.”
Is there anyone who could help us find where Dick Elwes is buried, please?
