Duncan Mark Moreira and 25. Florence Viola Mary Misso. He married 13. Phyllis Fortune Miriam Joseph 26 Dec 1942 in St Mary’s, Bambalapitiya,Colombo,(Ceylon)Sri Lanka.

Your family tree includes the names of my maternal great-great grand parents William Charles de Silva and Amelia Catherine Assauw; your great-great grand parents too. My maternal great grand parents are Emmanuel John de Zilva and Clara Virginia daughter of William and Amelia. Clara’s sister Anna Mary Ellenora Milhuisen is Brian Forbes’ grandma; your great grand mother. I have met with Brian Forbes when he was the Asst GM of Bank of Ceylon.
Emmanuel John and Clara Virginia de Zilva had two daughters, the eldest Analine Florence Mary (b. 2/11/1900) and the youngest Mildred Gertrude Cecelia (b. 31/01/1902). Mildred married Louis Herbert Nicholas on 21/12/1921; my maternal grand parents. I have no trace of whereabouts of my grand aunt Analine.

I’m descended from the South African cadet branch of the de la Harpe family through my father.
And have been researching our shared Swiss and French de la Harpe (de Alpa) ancestors. I would really like to ask you some questions re sections of your Rootsweb family tree.
Such as Helene Bickhard, who has been listed as Jean Rodolphe’s mother, rather than Anne Correvon who was Matthieu’s other wife (referenced as his first wife in Edmund de la Harpe’s book of our family’s genealogy, where Helene is written down as Matthieu’s second wife). I am trying to find out more information on this, as I have located some of Helene’s ancestors, and want to confirm that she is Jean Rodolphe’s mother.
In addition I thought you might like to know the details of Pierre de Alpa’s wife, which I found this week. She is listed in the reference book, “Une villa franche des comtes de Savoie Aires Moyen Age: Thonon”, by Monique Constant, 1973, on page 126, in the text and within footnote number 3. Jordane was an employee of Bonne de Bourbon, Duchess of Savoy; Mary of Burgundy; and Amedee VI; and Amedee VIII within her lifetime. Jordane/ Jordana is listed as Pierre de Alpa’s wife (here called Pierre de Larpaz), and Jean de Alpa’s mother. Jordane’s first husband’s name is also mentioned, he was a resident of Thonon, and had died before her marriage to Pierre.

I am researching my Grigson family in Sri Lanka. They are all related to my gt gt grandfather Adolphus Henry Grigson and his wife Catherine Burke. He spent time in Sri Lanka and was at one time Governor of Ceylon prison, Several of his children were born there and at least one also an Adolphus Wellington Grigson returned to Ceylon and worked as a photographer for the same agency as Julia M Cameron. He had several children.

I’m looking for any information on two gt-gt-grandfathers :- William Simpson Marshall, a planter, who died in 1891 at Matale (born I think in the UK), and Charles Perera Martinus, a surveyor who lived in Kotahena after he retired. Would also like to know the date of death of Oswin Edmund Martinus.

I am a member of the Blaze’ family. My genealogy shows a William Simpson Marshall marrying an ancestor of mine, Sarah Blaze’, in Kandy in the 1860s. Have you any information re this.

My great-grandparents on my mother’s side were William Simpson Marshall and Sarah Blaze who married in Kandy on 27 October 1869. Their youngest daughter, Faith Eunice Marshall married Oswin Edmund Martinus in Kandy on 19 April 1900 and their daughter, Dorothy was my mother. W.S Marshall died in Matale on 8 June 1891 and according to Benjamin Blaze he was born in London about 1834 but I can find no record of this. Sarah died in Colombo on 9 June 1922. Is this any help to You?.

Sarah Blaze was the daughter of John Henry Blaze (b.1791 Kaltura;d.abt 1860 Matale) and Margaretha Carloine de Joodt (b.25.Oct 1808 Kalutura; d.16 Feb 1895 Kandy). Sarah was the grand-daughter of Thomas Dietrich Fretz and his first wife Johanna Gertruide Fretz..
According to Ferguson’s Ceylon Directory, W. S. Marshall wsas a coffee dealer in Kandy between 11871-72. In 1880-81 he was a planter and private surveyor at Wallarantenne, Kandy. In 1883-84 he was a planter at Riverside, Naalapitiya. In 1887-88 he was at Riverside, Gampola. And in
1890-91 he was Surveyor and plante at Moncrieff. He died 8 June 1891 at Vicary Estate, Matale.

My aunt Eda( Edith Mack) Sansoni, was married to Miliani Sansoni’s son.
Aunty Katy Sansoni Carlotta’s (Budgie) mum was in close touch with my Aunty Eda. And as kids I used to play with Mary Ann and John Bertram. I have so many memories of get together’s etc at their house. I am 78 now and I believe Mary Ann could have been a little older than me as I often wore her special dress’s, that she had grown out of.
A few years ago, while on a trip to Barefoot in SL I met up with Dominic Sansoni and he informed me of John Bertram’s passing. My family immigrated to England in 1962 and lost touch around that time. Please let me know how you are connected to the Blaze’s. And please keep in touch

Hello, I am trying to find a possible marriage for William MERRILL to Charlotte BROWN possibly c1827. They had a child born c1827 ( likely Ceylon) called William, William was buried 10 Sep 1830 Fort William, Calcutta, West Bengal, India. William MERRILL senior was in the 16 th reg ft , who were stationed 1820-1840 Ceylon and India, Colombo, Calcutta, Cawnpore. No records of birth or baptism show up for William juniors birth in India so far or for the marriage. Charlotte was born c1810, so I am thinking perhaps she and William married in Ceylon c1827 making Charlotte aprox 18 years (just). William senior enlisted in the 16 th reg ft 1819. It appears that Charlotte’s father was also in the military, so I thought perhaps that was how Charlotte & William met.

Possibly from the area of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Left for Malaya before 1888. Their first born child, Emma Martha Joseph (born 1888 in ?Panang, Malaya?) married a Victor Stanley Pereira who might also be from Sri Lanka. The family eventually went into tin mining.

I am looking for any information about my ancestor Bernard Loughlin who served with the 58th Regiment of Foot in Ceylon and was married to a Mary Connor (possibly in Ceylon) who gave birth to a son William Loughlin in Trincomalee in 1838. As far as I know they were Catholics. Any information I would be grateful for. Thank you Keir

I’m researching my family tree and would lille to find out more about my great grandmother, Charlotte Laurie (nee Benning) who was married to Buxton Laurie, a tea planter in Sri Lanka. Charlotte had two daughters while living in Sri Lanka but died there as far as I know. Any information about the family’s life there would be most welcome, as would the cause of death and where she is buried.

I would like to trace the roots of my mother’s family name De Zilva. Her father’s name is Bertram Alphonsu De Zilva, and his father, Benjamin De Zilva was married first to a miss Forster and then to a one Miss Jansze Gracelyn. I read the whole page on the De Zilva family, closely looking for my greatgrandfather Benjamin’s background. I came across a one Benjamin who is the eldest in a family of four children born to John Bernard and Isabella. I am not sure if it’s my greatgrandfather.
