I am trying to find a marriage of a British solider John Foreman to Jane Fittiss, m/s Bowbank between 1814 and 1820 in Sri Lanka. John Foreman was in the 73rd Regiment of Foot. I have tried looking via ‘Army Channels’ and have not been able to find anything, and was wondering if you could give me any ideas. Thank you.

I am trying to do a family tree for my wife. Her family name is Ball. Her great grandfather was Henry Ball, born 1829 ( probably England) and died in Ceylon on 12 November 1886.
Any help or pointers you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t know if this is the same Henry you are referring to, but Henry Ball, born January 20th 1830 was the son of John Ball and Johanna Wilhelmina Ebert.
John Ball’s parents were George Ball, born June 9th 1827 and Arnolda Henrietta Ebert.
Henry married Matilda Wilhelmina La Brooy.
Things get a bit murky at this point, but it would seem that Henry and Matilda had three children,
Ada Caroline, born April 21 st 1859,
Jane Catherine, (no dates)
and Frances Eugenie Ball (my great-grandmother) born August 19th 1864.

Sorry for not replying sooner. The replies from Stanley Joahcim and Dia Tsung are about all I have. I’m not even sure it is the same family as they all seem to have daughters. My father in law was Henry John Charles Ball, born in Colombo on 19 May 1900. My brother in law seems to think that his great grandfather was the private secretary to Viscount Torrington, the ninth governor of Ceylon 1847 to 1850 and came to Ceylon with him. I don’t know if this is true or not.
If anyone can shed any further light on the above claims or family, it would be greatly appreciated.

Update to the above, it seems that John Ball and Henry Ball are not related to us as their line has all girls and the Ball name ends.
I am now chasing Charles Alfred Ball, born 1857, died 16/4/1931. he is buried in the Anglican section of Colombo general cemetery. He had four children, Ada, Henry, Reginal and Eveline.
