hi eileen my name is darren fielding i spoke to you today on the phone trying to trace my dad who was from kandy ceylon which is now known as sri lanka.
i could do with some help as iam unsure were to start.
my dads name was tuan sadikeen born 17th feb 1923, who i think joined the army in 1938 ish as in the desert. who moved to the uk in 1949 ish.
any info you could find for me would be fantastic or any other way to find out how to find any records as i am not good at using the computer websites.

Hello Darren,
I am 78 years old, originally from Kandy and presently living in California.
I visit Sri Lanka every year for an extended holiday and know many local Malay
families.
The name Sadikeen rings a bell. I seem to remember a Sadikeen who was a goalkeeper for a Kandy football team in the mid sixties.
I have requested a Malay friend in Kandy to try and trace the present day Sadikeens if they still live in Kandy.

my name is Douglas Nathanielsz and I have been desperately trying to trace my wife’s ancestors for her family tree. She was a Reid. The original Reid or Reed was a Scottish Highlander by the name of James Henry Reid/Reed who came to Ceylon around the early 1800’s. He married a lady by the name of Elizabeth Wheeler in the St Pauls Church Kandy (date unknown). any suggestions of available sources either CD’s or any other format that I could purchase to trace details of these two individuals and their descendants would be very much appreciated.

My father and all his siblings were either born in Colombo or in Kandy. They were the product of a marriage between Charles Kent, a British army officer, and Charlotte Ida Elizabeth De Vos, whose family had been in Sri Lanka since the early days of the VOC.
I am trying to obtain a birth and death certificate for the above Charlotte Kent nee De Vos but have been fobbed off by officials Charlotte was born in Trincomalee and died in Colombo in 1942. She is buried in the cemetery near Cinnamon Gardens in Colombo and I have. Photo of the marble monument in her honour.

I am the Great Great Grandson of Charles and Charlotte Kent. Harold, their child was my Grandfather. I would be interested in any information about the marble monument in honour of Charlotte Kent, I cannot seem to find anything in Google.
Charlotte Ida Elizabeth de Vos was a distant relation (by marriage) of mine. She was born at Trincomalee on 14-Dec-1871 to John George de Vos (1835-?) and Harriet Hunter (1837-?), who married at Trincomalee in 1857. Harriet was the 4th daughter of Wesleyan Missionary John Hunter (c1796-1842) and Charlotta Frederica Redlich (c1808-1849), who married at Trincomalee in 1827.

I am the granddaughter of George Forbes Neville Kent. My name is Alison Jane Stevens (known as Jane)and my mother was Marjorie Kent, Neville’s daughter. She had a younger brother Kenneth Winston Kent .
Neville married Lily Littlehales from Birmingham. Sadly Lily died in 1951 just before I was born so I never knew her.
My mother Marjorie married Leslie Monk in 1947 and my elder sister Susan Gillian Monk was born in 1948.
Kenneth went to live in Canada eventually and he had 4 children – Philip, Ralph, Deidre and Lesley. I visited Philip in 2012 but had not seen him since we were very small children. Deidre is the Canadian ambassador to Norway.
I don’t know what happened to Charles and Charlottes other children or anything about their descendants.

Hi Henry, my father Harold Frederick Kent was the fourth son of Charlotte and Charles Kent and I have been assured by two Sinhalese doctors, who have read my history of the de Vos family that we do have Sinhalese blood in our veins. A very interesting history! Best regards, Joy

I would be particularly be interested in the Silhanese bloodline information. I am convinced that it is part of our family bloodline but would welcome more history to corroborate this. I do hope you can help me. I am trying to trace my great-grandfather’s parents. His name is Edward Samuel La Brooy born in 1845 and christened in an Anglican Church in Kandy. He married Jane Maria Gauder 23 February 1870 in the Baptist Chapel in Pettah. At the time of his marriage his place of residence was Slave Island. I assume Edward is buried in Sri Lanka. He moved to Malaysia about 1893 but was not happy there and apparently left the family and returned to Sri Lanka. I believe Edward’s parents came to Sri Lanka to work for the Dutch East India Company.

Hi there, Edward Samuel LaBrooy was my 3x great grandfather. His daughter Edith came to Britain in the early 1900s and I remember 2 of her daughters, my slightly scary great great aunts! But I’ve always wondered about their heritage as Edith was definitely Asian not Dutch/Belgian. I do have family records beyond Edward Samuel but am not totally convinced that they are correct.

Hi Eileen, I have been trying to trace my fathers side for years but have had no luck. My father was Eric Vincent Jansen, born 29/3/1902 in Kegalle. His parents were Dr George Arthur Jansen and mother Clara Josephine Felsians He went to St Mary’s school in kegalle. Eric was a Police Constable No:2213. He enlisted on 6/12/1920.He then became Police Sergant. He was a member of the St. John Ambulance Association and qualified to render first aid on 22/01/1923. He received the ST JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE OVERSEAS and was awarded the 1st bar to the service medal of the order – MEDAL NO;1556. He retired on 1/3/1956. When he retired he worked as a Watcher for the Nadaraja Press in Colombo from 13/09/1957 to 30/04/1960.
He was baptised on 24/11/1904 in Kegalle. He married my mother Magdalene Hyacinth Alexander on 4/2/1942 in the Catholic church in candy. He died on 2/8/1964 and was buried at Mt lavinia Cemetry. There were four brothers and one sister. I would be very grateful if you could give me any information or where to seek.

Royce Douglas hawksworth Chava was looking for his father Richard Chava who was 62 years during WW2 ,R D H Chava was also looking for Jean Olive Chava aged 55 yrs ,I presume that Richard was married twice. The mother of R D H Chava was Ann Mary Hawksworth. R D H Chava was trying to find them through the Red Cross. They were living in Bavita Java during the war.
I am trying to find a marriage for Richard Barber and his wife Ann. They had a daughter born in Ceylon in 1833 called Jane for which I have the birth certificate but it only has her mother’s name as Ann. I am trying to find out about her mother and wonder if there is any record of Richard and Ann’s marriage or Ann Barber’s death in Ceylon.

I am trying on my husband side to go up the genealogy but stuck at the moment. Family I am looking for information are:
– Alexander Gray Brown, father of Alexander Patrick Brown (unknown mother / born 1896)- lived around Gampola
– Stanley Ingram Daniel Jansen (born Colombo) bien roughly 1890’s/ 1900’s married to Lilian violet Bennett and lived around Newareila.
I did some internet search but I am stuck and do not know where to go from here.
