Thank you Rhiannon the web site you told Gary about really helped ,I found my great ,great ,great grandfathers marriage details , Adrian Jansz married Elizabeth De Silva ,already had the details on paper ,just needed proof ,Adrian Jansz supposed to have arrived in the ship ” Landskroon ” from Holland ,was employed in the Dutch east India company at galle married Elizabeth De Silva on the 16 – 2 – 1794 at the Dutch reformed church at galle ,now to find their son who also married in the same church Gerald William Jansz married Johanna Maria Raymond on the 25-5-1826,

I am trying to trace any information – birth, baptism, family – of my grandfather Henry Stephen Jansz. We think he was born 11 Nov 1887 in Galle, Sri Lanka, and his parents’ names were Edward and Anne Jansz.
We know this because that was the information we have found registered when he married my grandmother Mary Carmo in Bombay India in 1912 and was baptised as a Catholic.

I have researched my family Bartholomeusz and found connections back to Daniel Bartholomeusz through Louis Ersinus Bartholomeusz. Any results prior to Daniel Bartholomeusz and how he came to be in Ceylon.
I have traced my family back to Daniel Bartholomeusz. My grandfather was Aelian Armstrong King Bartholomeusz married to Mildred Ethel Rheimers. The line traced back through the Dutch Burgher Union Journals. I’m looking for any relatives from that line.

Sorry, can’t help with any direct connections, only a distant one by marriage, with my ggg-uncle’s first wife (Redlich) having a cousin (Meerwald) who married in to the Bartholomeusz family of yours.
Had a look around for Daniel Bartholomeusz, but can’t seem to find anything relevant. Various online family trees have him born in the Netherlands, but there doesn’t appear to be any proof of this nor any record of him with the VOC at all. Seems a little odd that there is a known date of birth, but not a defnitive date of death? Maybe he was born in Ceylon, or one of the Dutch colonies. The Dutch Naameboek(je)’s don’t seem to mention him, although he does pre-date a lot of publications.

I am trying to find more information about my maternal grandfather, Roger Cuthbert Hayes. I believe he was born in England, possibly Leicester. He came to Ceylon and was employed as a Railway locomotive engine driver. He married my maternal grandmother, Lilian Frances Modder, daughter of James Francis Modder and Lilian (Lilias) Rose of Paisley, Scotland.
Roger Hayes, (b. 17 June 1872) married Lilian Frances Modder (b. 6 Nov. 1877) at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Dematagoda, 29 March 1892. Their daughter Lilian Frances Hayes was my mother. I wonder if St. Matthew’s Church has preserved any old records, and if so, how can I get any information.
My great-great grandfather John Armstrong married Henrietta Anna Helena Bogaars in the Dutch Reform Church, Galle on 23rd January 1828 by Governor’s Licence No. 925 dated 8th October 1827. He died in Galle on 26th March 1877.
Where was he buried ? : In Galle or Colombo
Do you have any records for john Phillip William Pietersz who was born in1839 in Galle Sri Lanka. His profession was inspector of Police.

Hi I’m looking for information on my great great great grandmother.
She was married at Galle on 11 February 1861
Her name is Martha jane Koopman and she married Edmund Dunbar ephraums.
I’ve researched many hours seems to be little trace of her.
Sadly I can’t find any trace of her either. Very mysterious. Variations of coopman/Koopman don’t help.either
I spotted the Ephraums family’s genealogy just on the opposite page to my grandfathers genealogy at the DBU. Definitely had those names you mentioned .
Can anyone help? I believe I have two 3rd great-grandmothers who I suspect are “Dutch Burgers”. Below are my thoughts and research to date:
1: Seraphina Donclere
Seraphina birth is unknown (no other “Donclere” has yet been found anywhere in the world!) but most likely born in Ceylon (probably Trincomalee) c1780 and died in India in 1810. She was my 3rd great-grandmother. Her “spouse” was Lt-Col Dunbar James Hunter 1773-1803, 19th Regiment of Foot aka “The Green Howards”. He died in Trincomalee in 1803 and was buried in the Pettah Burial Grounds in Colombo. They had one child Charlotte Hunter born in Trincomalee in 1802. Charlotte was my 2nd great-grandmother. When her mother died in 1810 she was sent to her Hunter grandmother in England where she married Richard Bevan of my mother’s family (see “Talbot of Stone Castle” Ancestry.com tree under that name). Both Colonel Hunter in his will of 1802, Seraphina in her will of 1810 and the British East India Company in their documents are very specific that her surname is spelt Donclere.
2: Julia ??
Julia (Juliana) is more elusive! She was born in Ceylon (probably Trincomalee) or perhaps Holland (claimed by a tree holder who has lost this key document!) in 1783. She died in Ceylon in 1807. Her “spouse” was Capt. Thomas Ajax Anderson 19th Regiment of Foot aka “The Green Howards”. It was clearly a very loving relationship since Capt Anderson (who was a published poet) wrote several poems mentioning “Julia”. They had two children Emma Anderson born in Ceylon in 1804 and Julia Anderson born in 1807 also in Ceylon (although incorrectly? recorded as “Lahore”). Julia was my 2nd great grandmother. She was raised in Ceylon by Thomas Ajax and his 2nd wife Sarah Hollowell. In 1825 she married my 2nd great-grandfather Capt. Henry Christian Talbot, 61st Bengal Native Infantry, in Calcutta. Henry Christian Talbot is a “Talbot of Stone Castle” (see Ancestry.com tree under that name).
