Four memorial stones from the Dutch Fort in Trincomalee thought to have been jettisoned into the sea have been found in the undergrowth at the army camp. On a recent visit to the Dutch Fort at Mannar memorial stones dating back to circa 1691 were found lying around on the road outside the fort. They are in need of protection. Does anyone know of a society or association who are willing to help?
The Dutch government is not backwards in coming forward with help to protect some of their heritage in Sri Lanka. Email the Dutch Consulate in Colombo at colo@minbuza.nl No guarantees, but hey, give it a try. The Dutch Govt has invested heavily in the Forts at Galle and Jaffna
